My best friend is a murderer, but she’s one of the good ones. I don’t mean good as in crafty or that she gets away with it, even though both are true. I use good in the sense that her kills are thoughtful. Society is better off without those men. She culls the pestilence of humankind. She only gets rid of people who you would want dead, too, I promise. People you’d hear about on a news report to which your reaction would be, “No loss, we’re all better off without him.”I’m no saint either, but my husband didn’t die by my own hand. Sure, I played a small role. In the end, he met his death because of his own actions. It’s easier on everybody if death looks like an accident.Gabriela and I aren’t bad people. In fact, we both live such lives of charity working at the women’s shelter that you’d never even suspect our secrets. Even presented with evidence, you would argue against our guilt. Neither one of us fits the part. But, the victims do. These men deserve it. The targets aren’t random; they have been vetted. And there’s a never-ending supply of trash needing to be taken out. The testimony is sent to us, walking right through the shelter’s front door, in the form of abused women and children.I’m more of a guardian, a guardian Angel. I carefully choose the women ready to pray with Gabriela, those women who can keep confidences. They believe she has a direct line to God. Pray with Gabriela and your problem permanently disappears. Even a private investigator wants prayers of her own to be heard. What none of them realize is that Gabriela takes it upon herself to save them. Through prayers, she knows who to get rid of next.We aren’t the only ones. I found that out. An invitation to join a prayerful support group showed me just how much company is out there. The reach and teach of this group of women is far and wide, encouraging others to take their lives back from abusive situations. Methods vary, but the murders are all indirect. That is, the men all unintentionally do themselves in. The events are fortunate accidents. The women involved are never suspected nor investigated, just as the men went unpunished for their transgressions. Their stories—and ours— of deeply planned revenge reveal that murder isn’t all bad. And there’s a lot of work left to be done.
