
Clemens Kalischer
About the Author "Clemens Kalischer was born in Linday, Germany, in 1921, and raised in Berlin. His family fled to France in 1933, and after several years of studying there, he was deported to an internment camp in 1939. Released on an emergency visa, he emigrated to the United States in 1942. Initial studies in photography at the Photo League were followed by enrollment at the New School for Social Research. Kalischer, who has lived in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, since 1951, continues to make photographs."Kelly Wise is the former photography critic at the Boston Globe.
