About the Author Dr. Richard Barnet, professor of recording industry and former chair at Middle Tennessee State University, near Nashville, is co-author of This Business of Concert Promotion and Touring (Billboard Books, 2007); The Story Behind the Song: 150 Songs that Chronicle the Twentieth Century (Greenwood Press/ABC-CLIO, 2004); and, Controversies of the Music Industry: Twelve Ethical Issues (Greenwood Press/ABC-CLIO, 2001). Rich was a founding member of the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association (MEIEA), an organization for which he produced a national conference and served as an officer. He is founding president and a former officer of NAMM Affiliated Music Business Institutions (NAMBI). Dicky Dixon is the Research / Reference Assistant in The Center for Popular Music, a center that was established in 1985 as a state-sponsored Center for Excellence. The Center is housed on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, where it supports the research needs of faculty members and scholars from around the world. In 2009 it became a constituent part of the College of Mass Communication at MTSU. Dicky is a member of the team that oversees more than 200,000 copies of historic recordings, 110,00 copies of sheet music, 2,200 periodicals, and other materials of value to researchers. They manage a sound recordings collection that is strong in rock 'n' roll, blues, rhythm and blues, mainstream rock from the 1960s to the present, and alternative rock. The Center also has extensive holdings of rock music periodicals as well as biographical, historical and critical books.
